Buying a business in Lansdale. Something for every budget!

Sunday, January 31

Not a whole lot of money spending today!  Well, I did have to fill up with gas.  Some of you may remember that I did that yesterday.  Well, I took the other car.  Also on empty.

I was running late for an appointment, so I decided I had enough to get me there, but not back.  I would have to fill up outside the borough.

We are experiencing a time of very low gas prices.  Unless you happen to stop at the BP station at Valley Forge and Germantown Pike.  $2.99!  And that is not a misprint.  It was $3.09 there last week.

Needless to say, I skipped that one.  And found a Wawa at $1.82 per gallon.  Woo-hoo Wawa!

Lansdale Shopping Score:  Zero (But I could have)

Anyway, that was the extent of my money spending.  We foraged in the freezer for something to have for dinner, and came up with the least ice encrusted package we could find.  After it thawed, it turned out to be stuffed pork chops (I remember them!  Bought at the 2 for 1 sale at Acme a while ago!).

Defrosting dinner can be a lot like meeting an old friend after a long time.  Sometimes you wonder why you never kept in touch.  Sometimes you remember why you parted ways.  But they always look more wrinkled than you remember.

But they were surprisingly good.  Ah, the wonders of cryogenics.

So instead of a shopping chronicle, let’s talk about places you may not only want to shop in, but might want to buy, as well!

Currently, you can buy some viable businesses in our fine borough.  At the expensive end of the scale, you can buy Marjeane Caterers on South Broad Street.  It’s on the market for $1.5 million.  At that price, you don’t get the furnishings or the (most important) liquor license.  But those items are available separately.

Not in the market for a catering hall?  How about a beer distributor.

We often drive through the Lansdale Beverage Company (For those of you not familiar with it, I don’t mean drive through it like I should get a DUI.  I mean drive through it because it has and entrance and exit.  Just pop the trunk and they bring your order to you).  It's on the market for $1.4 million.  And that is inclusive of the fixtures and beer distributor license, as well as the business name.

Too rich for your blood?  Jo-Mar Automotive at Susquehanna and West Mt. Vernon is on the market for $425,000.  Including equipment, but not hand tools.  And it includes an extra lot currently used for parking.

Leez Hair Salon on Main Street can be had for $290,000.  Business downstairs, and two apartments upstairs.

So what do we get from that?  Two things.  First, there is a wide range of price points for existing businesses for sale.

Second, there are not a whole lot of businesses in town that you can buy right now.

Later on, we’ll talk about vacant business buildings for sale.  And rentals, too, if that is what suits your needs.

There are a lot more opportunities to start your own business in Lansdale, rather than buy an existing one.

So, today’s score:

ONE need met outside the borough when I could have stayed here.

Let’s see what today brings!
