We’re the Wurst!

Tuesday, February 9

We finally made it back to Pennsylvania.  And as a welcome home present, you had a nice, thick blanket of heavy, wet snow waiting for us.  You shouldn’t have.  No, really.  We wish you hadn’t.

And you had another really unwanted present.  An “infotainment” web article titled “These Are The 10 Worst Philadelphia Suburbs.”  And Lansdale was number one.

Well, at least we’re number one at something!

But seriously, this web article seems to have gone around town at an amazing speed.  And unfortunately, some people in town and outside of it might take it for fact.

Because it’s not.

First off, the web site, Road Snacks, is like a Howard Stern or Ann Coulter.  Every time they open their mouths, they say something inflammatory.  Designed to get people riled up.  And boo and hiss and comment.  And drive their readership up so they get more money from their advertisers.

You'll notice I'm not linking to the article.  Because I don't want to drive their readership up, and give them clicks.

I’m not going to rebut their drivel – because it is drivel.  Unscientific crap.  Don’t pay attention to it.  Instead, realize what it should have been:

These Are The 10 Wurst Philadelphia Suburbs

This article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.

Philadelphia’s suburbs conjure up images of German Sausage.  Because of the strong history of German immigrants in Pennsylvania, the southeastern and south central parts of the state pay homage to their cultural heritage often.  Especially in October when many towns celebrate  Oktoberfest in style.
We examined the 27 biggest suburbs of Philadelphia to find out the wurst places to live. These ten know how to celebrate beer, dirndls, alpenhorns and wurst in style:
1.     Lansdale
2.     Pottstown
3.     Doylestown
4.     Drexel Hill
5.     Media
6.     West Chester
7.     Souderton
8.     Folsom
9.     Willow Grove
10.     Conshohocken

Read on to see how we determined the places around Philadelphia that you need to visit. And remember, thank us for pointing you in the direction of a town that’s worth a visit!

Just in case your German is rusty, “wurst” is German for sausage.  Liverwurst, Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Weisswurst and so many more.

And pronounce the "w" like a "v."  Because Germans don't like saying the "w" sound.  Which makes companies like VW really confusing.

Lansdale does have a wonderful Oktoberfest every year.  Full of wurst, and German dancing, and beer and lots of fun.  It takes place in Whites Road Park.

We even have the wurst mayor of any town in Pennsylvania!  Mayor Andy Szekely  presides over Octoberfest decked out in Lederhosen.  Which is German for “tight leather shorts with a bib that must chafe the hell out of Andy’s thighs.”

Council Vice-Chair Mary Fuller in normal pants, and Mayor Andy Szekely in Lederhosen

So today’s takeaway is this – ignore stupid websites.  Promote the things that make us special and unique.

And join me in October of some beer and wurst!

So, today’s score:

ZERO opportunities to shop/eat in Lansdale met. (We just got back too late.)

Let’s see what today brings!
