First off – the big news.
I am shocked that my prediction did not come true. Shocked. Contrary to my deeply held personal belief, I
did not end up winning the $1.5 billion Powerball. I’m stunned.
Now I know how Dewey must have
felt when he found out that he really lost to Harry S. Truman.
I honestly thought I was going to go the whole day and
not spend any money. I worked from home,
ate what was in the fridge and only had one plan outside the house – my installation
to the 2016 board of directors at the Montgomery County Association of
Realtors.
The annual installation ceremony – open to all Realtors,
is a fun event. Sometimes it’s a
breakfast meeting. This year, it was a
cocktail party. The event is usually at
a venue somewhat central in the county, as Realtor members come from all over the
county. This year, it happened to be at
the William Penn Inn. One of my favorite
Montgomery County places.
Let me tell you a little secret about Realtors. You can get them to go just about anywhere if
you offer them food. Throw in an open
bar, and you can get them to do just about anything.
So we had an open bar and the William Penn Inn’s great hors
d'oeuvres. I wanted to hold off on
eating until after the installation ceremony.
But by the time I got to the buffet, it had been pretty much picked
clean. Like a hoard of locusts had
descended on it. Realtors are a
voracious bunch, I tell you. Voracious.

Lansdale Shopping
Score: 1
Now, we used to have more fast food opportunities in the
borough. The McDonalds was on Main
Street (soon to become a laundromat).
But the loss I still mourn is the passing of the Roy Rogers on Main
Street at the Hillcrest Shopping Center.
Where the Harleysville Savings Bank now sits.
How I loved that Fixin’s Bar. I’d always take extra pickles. They had the best pickles. And the Horsey Sauce! No one has matched that since.
While Roy Rogers restaurants still exist, they are not in
the immediate area. In fact, if you
wanted a Double R Bar Burger right now, you’d have to go north on the Turnpike
to the Allentown Travel Plaza. That
would be the closest Roy’s to Lansdale.
And I would be willing to pay the toll.
Who is up for a road trip?
Call me.
We’ll score today:
A rather measly shopping spree. But all in the borough.
ONE opportunity to shop/eat in Lansdale met.
Let’s see what today brings!
