I saw stars in the borough - and not in the sky

Monday, January 18

Martin Luther King Day starts with some snow still on the ground. And a quiet day ahead.

Lunch was at the West Main Diner.  As previously stated – one of our go-to places.

I always like looking at the lunch specials.  And usually order one.  Today, the special that struck my fancy was the corned beef special wrap.  Special, meaning that it was made with coleslaw and Russian dressing.  But also a special because it was on the featured menu.

So I ordered a corned beef special special.

What is corned beef?  It’s beef that has been cured with salt.  Because that makes sense.

“Please pass me the corn and pepper.”

Total sense.

In other words, I have no idea why it’s called corned beef and not salted beef.  That’s what Wikipedia is for

While the food was, as always, excellent, it was also interesting to note two other people I saw there.

To my right, Carl Saldutti.  Lansdale Borough’s Director of Parks and Recreation.  Truly one of the hardest working people in the borough.  Besides our wonderful parks and pools, his department runs loads of activities.  Click Here to see what you may be missing!

Carl was the 2013 winner of Lansdale’s Lifetime Achievement Award.  Well deserved.  He has done so much for this borough.

When I was leaving, who did I see?  Jay Daveler.  The 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award winner.  Jay is the Borough’s fire marshal, and was formerly the fire chief of the Fairmount Fire Company.  Another very deserving recipient.

My take away?  The West Main Diner is the place to see and be seen!

And:  Lifetime Achievement Award winners gotta eat.  And eat somewhere good.  Thank you for supporting our borough business establishments, gentlemen!

Lansdale Shopping Score:  1

Broken record time.  Shopping trip to the Acme.  Not in the borough.  Sigh.

Lansdale Shopping Score:  Zero (I would have if I could have, but it’s something not available in the borough)

While this is not a money spending trip, I did go to the borough’s Economic Development Committee meeting.    It’s important to get involved.  Or at least come out to meetings and hear what’s going on.

They are friendly meetings – not intimidating.  You, as a citizen, are allowed to speak and voice your opinion.  And that sure feels good.

Here is a list of upcoming meeting.  Hope to see you at some.

UPCOMING PUBLIC MEETINGS
1. January 19, 2016; 7:30 pm Zoning Hearing Board
2. January 20, 2016; 7:00 pm Borough Council Business Meeting

This one is the big one (the one above) – and one not to miss.  It’s also the meeting where the Business of the Month is awarded.

3. February 03, 2016; 7:00 pm Borough Council Committee Meetings  and Work Session
4. February 10, 2015; 7:00 pm Parking Authority
5. February 16, 2016; 7:30 pm Zoning Hearing Board
6. February 22, 2016; 6:30 pm Economic Development Committee

These meetings take place at Borough Hall - One Vine Street.  Check the Borough's calendar for agendas and any changes to the schedule.

So, today’s score:

ONE opportunity to shop/eat in Lansdale met.

ONE needs not fulfilled by a Lansdale establishment.

Let’s see what today brings!

  1. Eagle Eye Mary Fuller noted that the next EDC meeting is on the 4th Monday in February instead of the 3rd Monday as it usually is - because of President's Day. Please note the change!
