Saturday, January 9
I do it. Just
about everyone does it. Some people talk
about it, some people don’t. Some people
say it will be the ruination of society as we know it.
But face it – it’s here to stay.
On-line shopping
So we are nine days into the New Year, and I am racking
up my second “No Lansdale” shopping day.
Not to say I didn’t spend money.
But this is going to be the day we talk about on-line
shopping.
Remember those large clay pots from a few days ago that I
won at an auction? Well, it’s time to
turn them into side tables. I know
exactly what I need. 28” diameter 3/8”
thick tempered glass with pencil polished edges. And I need two.

But I’m impatient.
I want them NOW! Or as close to
now as I can get. So I find Dulles
Glass & Mirror, a Virginia company, on-line. They have exactly what I need, at a very good
price. I even find a coupon code that
gives me free shipping. Now here’s the
amazing part. I complete my order at
10:45 a.m. on Friday. At 12:30 p.m. on
Saturday, the FedEx truck pulls up to my house with the perfectly packaged
glass table tops. They over-nighted my order
with Saturday delivery. For free. Wow.
I’m going to score this one:
Lansdale Shopping
Score: Zero (I would have if I could
have, but it’s something not available in the borough)
What did I learn from this? You’re never, never never never going to stop
on-line shopping. Never. Lansdale retailers have to embrace it. And many do.
Henning’s
Trains right here in Lansdale PA sells on-line.
Green Street
Luxuries right here in Lansdale. PA sells on-line.
Chantilly
Floral Boutique right here in Lansdale, PA sells on-line.
I’m sure there are many more that do, too. But it seems that in order to be a successful
retailer in today’s economy, you have to be on-line as well.
What can the
borough do? How about setting up a workshop,
or series of workshops to help get local Lansdale, PA retailers on-line.
Now I’m going to talk about a Christmas present I got – a
really great Christmas present. A big
tub filled with all of the makings for Moscow Mules. What’s a Moscow Mule, you may ask? A really neat drink make with vodka, lime
juice and ginger beer. Served in a
copper mug. Really tasty.
We do a blind taste test (and by that I mean there were
no blindfolds involved and I was looking right at the copper mug and glass I was
drinking out of) and found out that the copper mug is not just for show! It really makes the Moscow Mule taste better.
So today, I am determined to up our inventory of copper
mugs! Do I shop in the borough? Well, no.
I wouldn’t even know where to look.
Does anyone know a shop in Lansdale to buy copper mugs
for Moscow Mules?
I go to my trusty source for everything – Amazon.com.
Two minutes and six clicks later, and I have ordered a
wonderful set of four for $21 with free shipping (Amazon Prime).
Lansdale Shopping
Score: Zero (I would have if I could
have, but it’s something not available in the borough)
My take away from this?
Read this CNN article about Amazon brick and mortar stores: http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/04/technology/amazon-purdue/
I want one of these in Lansdale! We need to start a grass-roots campaign to
lobby Amazon to consider our borough for one of these stores.
Don’t hate the Internet.
Embrace it. Make it work for us!
So that’s it for today.
Went to a party in the evening, so no dinner.
We’ll score today:
TWO needs not fulfilled by a Lansdale establishment.
Let’s see what today brings!
